This ultralight frameless backpack is perfect for both experienced thru-hikers and weekend warriors alike. Designed to fit a wide range of hikers, the EVLV boasts an impressive measurement of 35 or 38 liters.

This backpack doesn’t come with a hip belt but does have the option for a one-inch webbing, which is perfect for those who prefer a more minimalist approach.

With plenty of impressive features, such as over-the-top Y-Strap compression and durable materials, the Waymark EVLV Backpack is definitely worth checking out.

Let’s dive into this review and find out why!

Key Features of the Waymark EVLV Backpack

As I continue to review the Waymark EVLV backpack, I can’t help but be impressed by its key features.

One stand-out feature is the newly offered over-the-top Y-Strap compression. This design allows for easy compression of the pack, reducing bulk and allowing for a more comfortable fit. The durable materials used in creating the pack are also impressive, providing excellent longevity and preventing wear and tear.

The comfort of the Waymark EVLV backpack is also notable, as its lightweight design doesn’t sacrifice comfort. Additionally, an optional ultra-stretch bottom pocket is available for added storage.

Overall, these key features make the Waymark EVLV backpack an excellent choice for anyone seeking an ultralight backpack that is also durable and comfortable.

Key Features: Over-the-top Y-Strap Compression

One of my favorite newly added features of the Waymark EVLV backpack is the over-the-top Y-strap compression system.

This innovative design uses 5/8” webbing with an adjustable buckle, which allows for proper compression of the backpack’s contents, keeping them secure and in place while on the go.

I find this feature particularly useful when packing big items like bear cans outside the backpack, easily securing them with the over-the-top Y-strap.

Whether I was just day hiking through rough terrain or taking off for longer hikes, the Waymark EVLV backpack’s compression system kept my belongings in place and held close to my body.

Plus, the Y-strap was incredibly easy to use- simply adjust the buckle to your desired tightness, and you’re set! Overall, the over-the-top Y-strap compression feature is both functional and practical.

Key Features: Durable Materials

One of the most impressive things about the Waymark EVLV backpack is its durable materials. The ECOPAK EPL Ultra 200 & 400 fabrics used in its construction are extremely tough and can stand up to a lot of wear and tear.

This is important for me, as I tend to be hard on my gear so I appreciate that Waymark Gear Co. has made a pack that is both lightweight and strong.

The use of tougher Ultra 400 material on the bottom area of the pack is also a nice touch for better ground wear.

It adds even more durability to an already tough backpack. Overall, I think the Waymark EVLV is a smart choice for anyone who wants a backpack that will last a long time.

Key Features: Comfortable Design

One of the key features of the Waymark EVLV Backpack that stood out to me upon my first use was its comfortable design.

The shoulder straps are padded just enough to provide support without feeling bulky, and the shoulder-strap daisy chain webbing loops allow for more flexibility in adding gear like pockets, camera clips, and more.

The roll-top closure also allows for easy access and is available in various torso lengths when you move into the 38-liter version.

Overall, the Waymark EVLV Backpack strikes a great balance between comfort and functionality. While it is lightweight and minimalist, the design doesn’t compromise on the necessary padding and support needed for a comfortable hike.

This pack is perfect for both long-distance thru-hikes and weekend trips in peak season.

In comparison to other UL backpacks in the market, the Waymark EVLV Backpack stands out for its unique features, especially the over-the-top Y-Strap Compression and optional Ultra Stretch Bottom Pocket.

Durability and longevity have also been prioritized, ensuring that this pack will last for many adventures to come.

Overall, I highly recommend the Waymark EVLV Backpack for any UL hiker looking for a reliable, comfortable, and functional pack.

Key Features: Durability and Longevity

As an avid hiker, I know that when it comes to backpacks, durability is key and this is why the Waymark EVLV Backpack caught my eye with its ECOPAK EPL Ultra 200 & 400 fabrics that are both extremely light and impressively durable.

The over-the-top Y-Strap Compression system also ensures that everything stays in place no matter how rough the terrain gets.

The optional Ultra Stretch Bottom Pocket adds extra on-the-move quick storage without compromising on the pack’s durability.

When I invest in a backpack, I want it to last me for many brutal adventures, and the Waymark EVLV Backpack is built to withstand the test of time.

Overall, I would highly recommend this pack for anyone seeking a durable and reliable option for their next expedition.

Key Features: *Optional* Ultra Stretch Bottom Pocket

One of the key features of the Waymark EVLV backpack that I absolutely love is the optional Ultra Stretch Bottom Pocket.

This is something that came about only in the last few years and is perfect for those of us who need just a little bit more storage space for items when on the move.

With its stretchable fabric and easy-to-reach design, this pocket is a great addition to this already amazing backpack.

I love how it can be opened to either the right or left side of the pack, depending on your actual needs and preference.

Size and Fit of the Waymark EVLV Backpack

When it comes to choosing an ultralight backpack, size and fit are crucial factors to consider. The Waymark EVLV Backpack offers a unisex sizing option, making it easy to find the right fit for your body type.

Its 35L capacity is perfect for very tuned ultralight thru-hikers and day trips alike, and the added option of an ultra-stretch bottom pocket offers even more storage.

The EVLV ULTRA version is the lightest full-size pack at just over 14oz, making it a great option for those looking to shave weight off their base pack.

Despite its frameless design, the backpack provides ample support and comfort, with wide shoulder straps and a comfortable design.

No matter which version of the Waymark EVLV Backpack you choose, be sure to pay attention to the sizing chart and adjust the straps accordingly for a comfortable fit on your next adventure.

Comfort and Performance of the Waymark EVLV Backpack

Moving on to the comfort and performance of the Waymark EVLV backpack, I was pleasantly surprised by the level of support and comfort it provided, despite being a frameless backpack without a designated hip belt though I did use the 1″ web belt to keep it tight to me.

Thanks to its beefier shoulder straps, I was able to carry heavier loads without feeling any strain on my shoulders.

The durable materials used in the construction of the backpack ensured that I didn’t have to worry about wear and tear. I also appreciated the freedom of movement offered by the Waymark EVLV, which made it easy to tackle any terrain with agility.

Overall, the Waymark EVLV backpack surpassed my expectations in terms of both comfort and performance.

Comparison to Other UL Backpacks in the Market

When it comes to ultralight backpacks, the market is flooded with options which is why it’s important to compare and contrast each backpack before making a final decision.

In my experience, the Waymark EVLV stands out against other UL backpacks:

  • The Pa’lante V2 backpack, the Waymark EVLV has more comfortable straps and more durable construction.
  • The Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60, while a great backpack, is heavier and less streamlined than the EVLV.
  • The HMG Unbound 40 is a new and solid contender, it lacks the over-the-top Y-Strap Compression that the Waymark EVLV provides.

Overall, I believe the Waymark EVLV is the best UL backpack on the market for its combination of comfort, durability, and lightweight design.

Pa’lante V2 Backpack

As an avid hiker, I’m always on the lookout for the perfect backpack. And while the Waymark EVLV Backpack definitely caught my eye, I couldn’t help but compare it to other ultralight options on the market, like the Pa’lante V2 Backpack.

The Pa’lante backpack is known for its sleek design, simplistic features, and ultralight weight, weighing in at just 16.5 ounces.

It also has a roll-top closure, front and side pockets, and a removable hip belt to lighten your load even further. However, the Waymark EVLV Backpack holds its own with its durable materials, comfortable design, and optional ultra-stretch bottom pocket.

Ultimately, it depends on what you prioritize in a backpack, but both options are great for those looking for an ultralight, minimalist hiking experience.

Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60

As someone who loves ultralight backpacking, the Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 has been a game changer for me.

Not only is it incredibly lightweight, but it also has ample storage space with an intuitively organized design. I appreciate the functionality of this backpack, from the mesh pockets to the padded shoulder straps and hip belts for added comfort.

It even holds up well in harsh weather conditions, thanks to the durable materials used in its construction. Overall, the Gossamer Gear Mariposa 60 is a top-rated ultralight backpack and it’s no surprise why.

It’s a fantastic choice for any backpacker looking to lighten their load without sacrificing functionality or durability.

HMG Unbound 40

So, I’ve been comparing the Waymark EVLV backpack to some other top ultralight backpacks on the market, and the new HMG Unbound 40 is definitely a contender.

Like the Waymark EVLV, the HMG Unbound 40 features durable and lightweight construction, weighing in at only 1.9 pounds. It also has a comfortable and customizable suspension system, allowing you to adjust the fit for maximum comfort on the trail.

However, one area where the HMG Unbound 40 excels is in its waterproofing. Made with a waterproof Dyneema Composite Fabric, this backpack will keep your gear dry even in the heaviest of downpours.

Overall, the HMG Unbound 40 is a great choice for those looking for a reliable and waterproof ultralight backpack.

Maintenance and Durability of the Waymark EVLV Backpack

Maintaining the Waymark EVLV Backpack is easy due to its durable materials. I love that the Robic nylon fabric used on the backpack is ultralight but quite resilient to wear and tear.

Additionally, the optional ultra-stretch bottom pocket is handy when packing dirty items or wet gear, as it is easy to clean and keeps the rest of the contents free from moisture.

While the backpack is not as large as some other models on the market, it still has plenty of space to carry all the essentials for a long hike.

Despite its delicate nature, the backpack is quite sturdy and can handle bumps and scrapes with ease. The Waymark EVLV Backpack is not only comfortable but also a long-lasting investment for serious backpackers who want a premium ultralight backpack.

I turned 40 and realized I needed to change my life from being a desk-bound IT worker slowly dying in a cubicle. I have been working on ways to build my knowledge and skills, along with gear. I have plans to do a thru-hike on the Lone Star Hiking Trail, Ouachita Trail, and Pinhoti Trail in the next year.
